11. The Kite Runner

Ch.1-5
I empathize with Amir in wanting to be what his father wants, though having to betray himself. But I also feel disappointed at his inability to refer to Hassan as a friend just because of their religious backgrounds. I was impressed in his writing abilities and the story he wrote. I felt so sorry for him when Baba paid him no attention, and irritated again at his racism towards Hassan.

But my irritation faded when Amir defended Hassan when a neighborhood bully was about to beat him up. I felt so proud of him when he finally recognized Hassan as his friend. When Baba has a doctor fix Hassan’s cleft lip, I smiled along with Hassan.
